Types of Tea and Caffeine Content

According to Vicony Teas Company there are nine types of tea; green tea, black tea, white tea, yellow tea, Oolong tea, dark tea, Pu Erh tea, scented tea and Herbal tea. We will focus on five of those tea types.

Black Tea

Black tea in general has a higher caffeine content versus all other types of tea. Black to has about 40 to 70 milligrams of caffeine per eight ounces. Compared to eight ounces of coffee having 95 to 200 milligrams of caffeine.

Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is neither black or green tea. It is a tea created through a process which includes withering the plant under strong sun. But first, the leaves are bruised by tossing or shaking them. This initiates the n oxidation process that will give oolong tea leaves their flavor. Oolong tea's caffeine content is around 37 to 55 milligrams of caffeine per eight ounce serving.

Green Tea

Green tea has 35 to 45 milligrams of caffeine per eight ounce serving. Green tea is known for having many health benefits and does not have as much caffeine as black or oolong tea.

White Tea

White tea has the lowest amount of caffeine of all teas with 15 to 30 milligrams per eight ounce serving. White tea is known to be one of the most delicate tea varieties because it is the least processed.

Herbal Tea

Herbal teas like rooibos chamomile, ginger, moringa or peppermint do not contain caffeine. These teas are not made from the leaves of camellia sinensis, the tea plant. They are made instead from dried flowers, leaves, seeds, or roots that are generally caffeine-free. If you are looking for a tea to drink at night and want to sleep, herbal tea would be your best option.
